Jay Chou to Play Kato in the Upcoming Green Hornet Movie

As most of you are probably aware, The Green Hornet was an important television show to the martial arts community because it helped jump-start Bruce Lee’s acting career in the United States. When I found out that Columbia Pictures was making a Green Hornet movie, the first thing that came to mind was “Who is going to play Kato?”. The Green Hornet was actually a pretty good show, but to be completely honest, the only reason I watched it was to see Bruce Lee in action.

I’ve done a little bit of research on the upcoming Green Hornet film, and overall, it sounds promising. Seth Rogen (Knocked Up, Funny People) will play the role of Britt Reid (the Green Hornet), while Cameron Diaz (There’s Something About Mary) and Edward Furlong (Terminator 2, American History X) will take on the roles of Lenore Case and Tupper. The role of Kato will be played by an actor named Jay Chou who is not very well known in the U.S., but is very popular in his native Country of Taiwan.

Jay Chou was actually an established musician before he recently decided to play his hand at acting. He is currently recognized for his roles in foreign films like "Initial D", and "Curse of the Golden Flower". As a martial artist, Jay Chou isn’t very well known, however, he has done an excellent job portraying martial artists in movies like "Kung Fu Dunk" and "Double Blade".

I have to admit that I was a little disappointed they didn’t use a more notable martial artist like Jet Li for the role of Kato, but I am looking forward to seeing how Jay Chou pulls it off. I guess we will just have to wait and see.
