"I'm going to write you a novel about this gi. Knowing what you are buying is important.
This is an excellent heavy gi (uniform) the quality is every bit as good as the more expensive brands. It is heavy and durable. If you like spending buckets of money for a name brand, by all means, get the other. If you are like me and have a growing teenager and you know this is not a one time investment, here you are.
This is not the beginner gi. A beginner is not likely to be comfortable wearing this. Wait until they have progressed a few ranks. This is perfect for any demonstration where you want to make an impression. Iron and starch this uniform and make a distinctive POP sound with punches and kicks.
My teenager did not personally like the drawstring pants. That's a personal preference, not a problem with the uniform. Take that into account before you purchase.
Now, sizing. Not everyone new to martial arts knows how the sizing of a gi works, let me help. You start with the weight of the user. Just about everyone has to hem the sleeves and pants. The sizing is designed to fit a range, instead of buying a new uniform every 30 minutes. Remember those growing children?
The size 4 jacket was nearly perfect for my son. The sleeves need very little hemming, just enough to leave his hands fully exposed. He is 129 pounds and 5ft3in. The size 3 elastic waist pants are great. This 14oz gi comes as a one size, two piece set, jacket and pants but the 12oz gi is available separately.
