Picture yourself on a plane heading to the Democratic People's Republic of Ninjastan. You have been tasked with using your martial arts training to infiltrate a secret weapons manufacturing facility. Vital to your mission's success is your 3-Piece Escrima Staff, which you have been able to take in your checked luggage without paying awkward and expensive fees because of the way it can be broken down into three easy-to-store pieces.

As the plane lands, you begin to feel anxious about your mission. The weapons made in this nefarious factory are used for perpetual war, but destroying the factory seems wrong. The people of Ninjastan depend on the money from the weapons to survive. There has to be a better way, you think. Your conflicted thoughts have no more time to go through your head when the cabin door opens and a team of blue ninjas rush in to capture you.

"You are to come with us peacefully, sir," one of them says in a thick Ninjastani accent, his vowels clipped and his r's rolling down the aisle to your seat. He shows you his police badge. "We only wish to question you."

Do they know? you ask yourself. Even if you escape their custody with your freedom intact, it's clear that the Ninjastani government will be watching you closely during your stay. The mission is in jeopardy and you still aren't sure if that's a bad thing.

The blue ninjas escort you to a room for questioning. One of them brings in the canvas carrying case that came free with your three-piece staff. He drops it on the small table in front of you.

"We know of fiberglass two-piece bo," the ninja cop with a badge says to you. "But this. We have never seen this before. Please to explain."

You open the carrying case and pull out the three pieces: two 26" escrima and a center piece that is 20 or 8 inches long (depending on the length you ordered from KarateMart). The ninjas in the room jump back in defensive postures. But they relax as you screw the three pieces together and explain how it works:

"These high-strength aluminum staffs are superior to lightweight two-piece bo staffs because they are built to last. The metal staff won't chip over time or crack at the connectors. The pieces can be stored and screwed together whenever they are needed." To infiltrate a factory. To shatter a nation's economy. You smile convincingly.

Just as you tighten the second escrima to form a solid, 6-foot or 5-foot staff, the pieces suddenly fall into place in your mind. The ninjastanis can't be trusted with the three-piece escrima staff. Global doom would follow if the convertible metal bo were to fall into the wrong hands. With the weapons factory still operational, these five ninjas in this small room have the wrongest of hands. The ninja with a badge steps forward and you tighten your hold on the bo's detailed machined grips.

"Excellent," he says. You can hear him smiling behind his ninja mask. "I think we can to take it from here."

"I don't think so," you say. You kick the table down and it falls on two of the ninjas. The flashy metal sings in the air as you twirl it around. Pop! Down goes one ninja. Bam. Down goes another. You thwack the ninja cop in the knee before he can jump back and you dispatch the two ninjas under the table with a flick of your wrist. Blood is on the ground and bruises embedded into flesh, but you still have an airport's worth of ninjas to get through before you're safe.

"Your weapon," the ninja cop spits out. "You will give it to us. For the glory of Ninjastan."

He begins to crawl toward you as you beat the door open with the staff.

"I don't think so. The 3-Piece Escrima Staff is and always will be made in America. Now stay down."

You run out of the interrogation room, staff in your hand. Luckily the metal bo is not too heavy, weighing about the same as a standard oak staff. Booms from far off explosions shake the ground a little. You rush to a window and see smoke on the horizon in the direction of the weapons manufacturing facility. Someone has taken the choice out of your hands. You can't help feel relief and anger all at once. But who?

"Nice staff, kiddo," a familiar voice behind you says.

"Blight Killian!" You turn around and twirl the bo staff menacingly. But your nemesis holds up his hands.

"Wait! It's not what you think."

You want to let him explain, but time is short and more ninjas will be upon you soon. You quickly unscrew the perfectly weighted staff into two fully-functional escrima sticks just in time. It seems as though everyone in Ninjastan is pouring through the doors with their sai, their nunchaku, and their shuriken. You hand one escrima to Killian. "I'll let you fill me in when we're through with this."

The two of you stand back to back, with ninjas around you and freedom a world away.
