Self-Defense Technique of the Week - Escaping the Double Chicken Wing
It's that time again! This week's Self-Defense technique of the week is one of my favorites.

While going to college at Arizona State University, I spent my nights working as a bouncer at one of the popular Tempe, AZ nightclubs. Every so often we had a rowdy customer who refused to leave peacefully and needed to be escorted out of the building, so I found that the best technique I could use to restrain a person without risking much injury to them was a double chicken wing.

Throughout my years as a martial artist, I've been able to find very few people who can escape a double chicken wing that is executed properly. Albert Fabian, a 7th Degree Black Belt in Aiki-Jujitsu was kind enough to bring me to his house and let me record how to successfully escape a double chicken wing.

Please be aware that you can permanently injure someone by using this self-defense technique too forcefully on their arm. Be careful!

Gina Carano First In Line For 'The Expendables' Female Version
Earlier this week it was revealed that female MMA fighter and all-around martial arts pro Gina Carano will be the first to sign on for an upcoming action movie being touted as "the female version of The Expendables".

The movie is still in its beginning stages of production (a script is still yet to be written) but it comes from the same producers behind the popular Expendables franchise so hopefully we'll be able to expect something along the same lines as the well-received Expendables 2 of this Summer.

Check back to the KarateMart.com Martial Arts Blog for the latest news on this project as we find it. Oh, and you know we're going to be making our own recommendations for this new fighting female cast of action heroes, right?

Self-Defense Technique of the Week - Escape the Sleeper Hold
While working for KarateMart.com, I've been lucky enough to meet some incredible martial arts instructors. One of the instructors I've been privileged to spend quite a bit of time with is Shihan Albert Fabian, a 7th degree black belt in Aiki-Jujitsu.

Recently, I mentioned to Shihan Fabian that I would be interested in creating a series of blog posts on KarateMart.com that would highlight different martial arts self-defense techniques to help our readers learn to defend themselves a little better. Shihan Fabian was kind enough to invite me to his house to show me how to perform some great escapes on one of his students. THANKS ALBERT!

Justice Dealing Ninjas Appearing At A Theater Near You?

"I'll silence you faster than a Michael Bay dialogue scene."

The next time you pull out that cell phone for a quick text, don't be surprised if a shadowy warrior materializes behind you and tells you to stop it. Sound crazy? A London movie theater is doing exactly that.

The Prince Charles Cinema is apparently trying out a program whereby ushers, hidden by black morphsuits will be on the prowl to silence any loud talkers, annoying phone users, and general miscreants that may be out to ruin the movie for the rest of us.

Interestingly enough, the idea actually began when Gregor Lawson became so fed up with obnoxious movie-goers, he decided to do something about it. Who's Gregor Lawson you ask? None other than co-founder of the official Morphsuits company. Sounds like a win/win for everyone.

I'll be curious to see if a similar trend follows in American theaters. It may seem a little odd but I'm all for keeping distraction down in a theater. Now if only they can do something about the people that have to get up every fifteen minutes and walk in front of me...
